Hey, what's up! I'm raising funds to help my friend Thea find a safe home away from her abusive neighbor, and every little bit makes a huge difference. If you could donate $10 or even just share the link, it would mean the world. Thanks so much!Wednesday, August 07, 2024

A Shift is Coming
Been focusing on gaming books, which everybody I talk to on my publisher Discord says is slowing down. I've certainly not seen the sales.
I'm seriously preparing for a fantasy anthology. This should come out in 2025 and more details will be posted here and on my CougarShadow Press LLC website.

Works in Progress
I believe that the book on the Elven pantheon is ready for artwork, then publication.
My work on Celestials, Fiends and Fey is ready for more effort. I've done the Celestials in my opinion.
Will put up a new video today in the CougarShadow Press LLC channel regarding my first work, 84 Rituals of Ancient Kushta.
I am working on building a wider online audience so that I can eventually run Kickstarters for the few hundreds of dollars needed for quality artwork.

Don't Go Out of the Light
I've had one brief encounter with the gritty dark, a cleric who insisted that his god didn't bar torture, and proceeding to describe how graphically he'd torture a captured prisoner.
I gave him a one on one saying our table wouldn't allow it, and our host storeowner didn't want it there either. Fortunately he dropped it.
I think keeping to the straight and narrow is part and parcel of having a modern hobby audience. You never know what people have gone through, and its a serious turnoff to enough people to be fatal to the attempt to recruit and keep gamers at your table.

Just Saw Dune2
It was interesting how entertained I was by Dune 2, because I found Dune 1 increasingly annoying as it departed from the book. But Dune 2 had a story to tell and told it. I recommend it, but of course if you haven't read the novel Dune get a copy.

Benehospitaler
Working on another celestial, the healing Benehospitaler. I'm using Pathbuilder to flesh out the numbers as I devise 7 ranks of each servitor, matching the Summon Celestial spell.
I'm going to do two fey servitors and two fiend servitors, then publish them in a new book.

Ghazilu
The Legio Caelum are shaping up to the unorganized Ghazilu, a winged celestial servitor class symbolic of divine wrath. I'm going to have six sets of servitors, two celestials, two fiends, and two fey, with seven ranks in each set to match the summon spell appropriate to that set.
I'm finishing the seven ranks of Ghazilu right now.
Eventually this will be sold as Celestials & Fiends & Fey.
It helps when I get stuck to pretend there are no wrong answers, just imagination.

Nice Work If You Can Get It
The Kushta continental setting will have 24 realms, 8 independent dwarven citadels, 26 pantheons and 24 playable ancestries.
I'm looking at years of work filling this in.
Time to Learn Cartography
My inkarnate.com subscription is up for renewal. Haven't played with it enough. I want a continent about the size of the USSR with 24 realms and 8 dwarf citadels. Considering the price of art and maps I'm better off teaching myself...

Legio Caelum and Choir Sinister coming soon
Have decided the next project will be another in the Kushta Pantheon series. A heavenly host of empyrean servitors under an Angelus Imperator, and homemade demons under a demigod demon.

Go Offroad
This year I turn 50 and reflect upon my indulgence in the hobby of roleplaying gaming, and I feel pretty good about it. I don't just act out a role, I'm making homebrew content and selling it, and could do more if real life would calm down.
One of the things I reflect on is GMing loosely, and I'm getting fonder of it. I'm not a kid or a college student, and the people I play with tend to be busier than ever now. In the New Economy we often have to take on odd hour jobs to make ends meet, and it's just more increasingly true that we're less and less likely to complete a two-year campaign together.
So...go for a rich experience! Allow that homebrewed quirk, that special piece of equipment, that extra proficiency that isn't strictly by the book. Be open that you're deviating from convention play, they can't take their character sheet to a Hall and fit in, but how often does that happen, really?
Above all allow published third-party content like what I sell on DriveThruRPG.com as CougarShadow Press LLC. Bend it. Play with it. Make it fit your vision, but allow a unique and stylish roleplaying experience at your table. You'll have fun with it.
